work with Tails & Trails

So, you want to be a professional dog walker?

This isn’t your average part-time job.

At Tails & Trails, you’ll spend your days walking dogs, getting fresh air, and building real connections with the pups and our team. To truly enjoy this work, you need to be caring, dependable, and confident working independently and still value being part of something bigger. The right fit is someone who communicates clearly, pays close attention to the details, and values the trust families place in us. Just as we go above and beyond for the pets and families we serve, we make it a priority to respect and support our team every step of the way.

We are looking for someone who:

> Has a reliable, insured vehicle and feels genuinely comfortable with driving and parking—it’s a big part of the job.

> Understands the trust our clients place in us with both their pets and their homes, and can confidently pass a background check.

> Communicates clearly and follows protocols during shifts to keep both clients and the team in the loop.

> Can commit to two or three shifts during the workweek, each lasting at least four hours between 9 AM and 4 PM.

> Enjoys being active—walking dogs back-to-back and spending hours on your feet sounds like a good day.

> Is confident using a smartphone with data and feels comfortable navigating apps for scheduling and communication.

What can I expect?

> You’ll spend your days working independently, with the comfort of knowing support from your team is always just a quick call away.

> Plan on covering 3–6 miles per shift, rain or shine. You’ll walk pups of all shapes and sizes (sometimes two at a time), and yes, there will be muddy paws and the occasional mess along with the tail wags.

> We do our best to give you a consistent weekly schedule, though changes will come with the nature of the work.

> This is a part-time role designed to bring meaningful, steady income to your week—and the work feels rewarding in more ways than one.

Why this may not be the right fit.

> You prefer every day to look the same. Our schedules look different every day.

> You don’t love working independently.

> You don’t enjoy exercising or being outside in all weather.

> You’re uncomfortable with large, energetic dogs (think a 100-pound Labrador bounding with excitement at the sight of the leash).

> You are looking for more than supplemental income. This is a part-time job and hours will shift some week to week.

> You’re unable to commit to a consistent weekly schedule with the minimum availability we require.

What you get!

> A consistent weekly schedule you can count on, with room to grow into more hours.

> A supportive team that values you, your voice, and your success—we’ve got your back!

> Opportunities to grow with Tails & Trails. Dedicated team members will have growth opportunities within the company.

> Fair pay for meaningful work, plus 100% tips.

> The best “office views” in Portland including ocean breezes, fall foliage, and snowy trails.

> Plenty of wagging tails! All of the happy dogs. If you’re the right fit we’ll make sure you get plenty of time with them.

Think you’d be a great fit? We’d love to hear from you!
